What size of gun belt should I choose?
Measure a belt that fits you comfortably (without carrying a gun) from the buckle - not including the buckle - to the belt hole you are using. If you plan to carry a holster and gun, then add 2” (e.g. if you measured 40” as described above, choose size 42). Our belt sizes are measured from the buckle ( starting with the leather, not including the buckle) to the middle of the 7 belt holes.
What makes a good gun belt?
Most leather dress belts sold for day to day use at department stores and belts made with fabric or synthetic materials are not suitable for carrying a gun, they may even hinder your ability to draw effectively when you need it the most. The weight of the gun and pressure from the waist may cause sagging over time. A good gun belt needs to be about ¼” thick and sturdy. Most paddle holsters and IWB holsters with clips are designed to catch on to the belt when drawing, so it is important that the belt does not have tapered or rounded edges. Master’s Holsters gun belts are made from ¼” thick, single piece bullhide leather, ideal for carrying with any type of holster.
Does a gun belt go through belt loops?
Most gun belts are designed to be used with day to day clothing and they typically are worn through belt loops on pants. Our gun belts are 1.5” wide, which fit with most belt loops on clothing as well as belt slots on most holsters. Duty belts are different, they are usually 4” wide and they are designed for law enforcement only.
How thick should a gun belt be?
While the answer depends on the person, weight of the gun, holster style, and the purpose of carrying, the ideal thickness of a good gun belt is about ¼” for most people. Belts thinner than that may not perform well with holsters when drawing and belts thicker than that may be uncomfortable, heavy and less flexible.
How many bullets does a gun belt hold?
Gun belts designed for day to day IWB / OWB carry typically don’t come with integrated bullet holders. Magazine cases, speedloader cases, or ammo holders may be worn on the belt just like a gun holster. More ammo means more weight, thus it is important to use a sturdy belt. The number of bullets carried depends on the capacity of the ammo holder, how sturdy the belt is, and how much total weight the individual is comfortable with on the belt. Some Cowboy Action gun belts are made with integrated bullet holders, capacity may vary from half a dozen to three dozen bullets depending on the make.
